DJ mattcatt started his musical journey in 1985 after becoming inspired by HipHop and Club Culture. After leaving school Matt moved back to London and became a full time clubber doing a variety of production/promotion jobs for which ever crew was hosting the happening events at the time. influenced by the likes of Mark Moore, Colin Favour, Mr C, Soul2Soul, Carl Cox and Harvey B made Matt reach for his headphones once more. Becoming a DJ in a bustling scene meant needing something unique. After a time lugging records about and dealing with the hard nosed politics of the dj booth, matt switched to CD's in 1990 and enjoyed a number of years playing a unique blend of electronica supporting his 'main room' heroes as well as hosting the 2nd rooms and chill out spaces. The underground party scene was merging with the Festivals and it was here that the idea of becoming more sustainable or green started to take root, the essence of community sharing ideas and technology as a tool rather than a consumer gadget became more and more important to the overall setup. By the 2000's PC's had become better at providing home recording facilities and making unique tracks to drop became the next objective. Being part of a nascent mash-up scene taught Matt a lot about musicality and also where the media was heading. Mattcatt's mashups featured on X-fm remix show and were released on white label though vinyl force. Teaming up with singer/producer Gene Serene gave him his first taste of songwriting / production withBeatquest in 2006. Matt also spent 4 years recording music with Colin Angus (ex. Shamen) for a project called Pablo Sandoz. In 2010 matt made the transition to purely digital and adopted a portable system called Pacemaker Device which with it's portability and hard disk storage provided the easiest way to carry a large library of music. It was then possible to play a variety of different styles and use BPM filters to mix and match different genres. The global sound was developed and now a set could start in one place and go on a journey that went beyond the average record box / cd wallet in terms of playlist potential. Sadly the Pacemaker Device was discontinued so after 5 years it was time to choose a different platform. An Apple Ipad loaded with algoriddim's Djay app and a Vestax Spin Controller to provide a tactile surface to mix on. The master playlist is some 3500 favourite tracks spanning many genres and tempos between 60 and 170 BPM. As we look to the future then perhaps systems like pioneer Record-box can provide a parallel format to access club standard players via usb drives but mattcatt will remain committed to working with available resources and appropriate technology. Some of the clubs and events played at include Sunrise, Genesis, 2nd Avenue, Evolution, Greenpeace, Discoteque, Rainbow Centre, Bagleys, La Factoria, Tribal Energy, The Warp, Critical Mass, BSTD, DJ Slam Herbal, Cargo, Legs and Co, Glastonbury, Secret Garden party, Shambala, Rumpus, Small World, OMG... , Magic Garden / F&F, Rowans, Festival 8 plus numerous private parties and one off events. As a provider of music, production support and event management. It's always been about having good times and providing something a little bit above and beyond your average dj performance.
